Entrepreneur, real estate owner, and philanthropist Avi Oster has been working diligently over the past year to change the way charitable endeavors target donors. Instead of bludgeoning attendees with promotional messages about giving money to specific causes, Oster prefers to have a cross-section of atmospheres at his events, creating a blend of philanthropy, artistry and high-level networking.

Oster recently worked alongside hip-hop mogul and emerging actor Ne-Yo for an evening entitled 360 Induced, hosted at New York City’s Carlton Hotel. The two entrepreneurs wanted the attendees of the event to represent a variety of professions instead of just a few, which meant icons from the fashion, community service and music industries were all mingling and meeting in the same space.

The philosophy behind Oster’s approach is simple. “With this event, Ne-Yo and I envisioned providing a space where leaders connect, where bright young people learn from the best, and where, ultimately, creativity comes alive,” Oster explained. 360 Induced also raised awareness of social inequalities by advertising R&B singer Estelle’s charity, the All of Me Foundation, that aides inner-city youth.

But Oster’s collaborations extend beyond just Ne-Yo. He has also worked for the past eight years with prominent fashion designer Catherine Fulmer, who just introduced her fall fashion line for women, Southern Crawl. Much in the vein of 360 Induced, the evening featured top-notch musical performances by soul singer Marla Joy and DJ Paul Sevigny, while also highlighting exciting new projects in the fashion world.

The Rise of LED

For a long time LED lights seemed like an unlikely technology to ever rise to prominence in daily use. Our present use of LED dimming, LED office lights, LEDs in art museums and in homes, could not have been envisioned when the LED was first devised.

LED lights are a special kind of light. Instead of heading up a wire filament like incandescent bulbs or firing electrons into special reactive gases like fluorescent tubes, an LED light manipulates electrons directly to get them to give off photons, or light. First invented in 1962, their advantages were immediately clear. They use little energy, put off no heat and are very durable.

However, early LED lights only worked at very low wattage, far too little for lighting a room. To complicate matters further the only color light they initially produced was red light. This allowed them to be used as warning lights and indicators in electronic devices and control boards, but not for any other day to day uses. Still, because they are so efficient, research continued. Companies wanted to find a way to make these “superlights” practical for home use.

In 2003 this finally became a reality. Yes, after more than 40 years the first household LED lights finally came out. In the decade since, they have been diversified into many different colors including white and natural-colored lights. They perform all the functions of traditional lights, such as LED dimming, often better than the traditional lights did. The LED has become the leader of the industry.

Standard ultraviolet sanitizer lights are incredibly efficient at killing a wide variety of microbial life ranging from germs and bacteria all the way to microscopic dust mites. The UV radiation from these lights attacks nucleic acid, better known to most people as DNA and RNA, thereby either killing or neutralizing harmful pathogens and microorganisms. These devices function by using special kinds of light bulbs to emit ultraviolet radiation to sterilize surfaces and liquids, particularly either mercury based bulbs or light-emitting diode (LED) lamps.

The standard ultraviolet sanitizer tends to utilize mercury based bulbs to produce UV-C radiation used in sterilization. Because normal glass will block the vast majority of ultraviolet radiation it is necessary to use a noncrystalline form of silica made from fused quartz to allow for UV-C transmission. The bulbs are filled with inert gas and mercury vapor particles which emit the ultraviolet light when excited by an electrical current from the wire filaments inside the tube. The lifespan of mercury-based UV light bulbs ranges from 3,000 hours with a low voltage bulb to upwards of 8,000 hours with 30 or 40 watt bulbs.

Light-emitting diode bulbs, on the other hand, have a much longer lifespan than their mercury-vapor cousins. These types of ultraviolet light bulbs are particularly handy for smaller appliances like a cell phone sanitizer or toothbruth sterilizer. They are composed of a special kind of semi-conductor set in between a cathode and an anode and encased in epoxy resin. They cost much more than mercury-vapor bulbs, but they also last between 50,000 and 100,000 hours. The only down side is that they are slightly less effective and thus must be used for longer periods of time to fully sanitize.

Americans are famously a do-it-yourself type, a tendency which has served our enterprising, frontier spirit well for generations and which will continue to do so for as long as your red-white-and-blue flag flies. Unfortunately, this means a lot of home repair or remodeling jobs go, well, awry. There is a reason dedicated construction companies either invest in dumpsters for their own sites, or have a good dumpster rental Maryland, Washington, Delaware, etc company on speed dial. If you’re throwing up shingles, tearing off siding, cleaning out a garage, or tearing up a carpet don’t expect your local garbage men to take care of everything—get a dumpster and get rid of it all.
For construction sites you will be facing a bottomless supply of dangerous material such as scrap, metal, nails, concrete, and other junk. Trying to bag this stuff or use a plastic container will only shred it and spill dust and sharp corners everywhere. A Metal dumpster will contain everything and keep your area much safer.
For do it yourself projects you might find that that 30 feet of rolled up carpet ends up living on your curb for a while, an eyesore your neighbors wont want to look at day in and day out. Not to mention the fact that these jobs typically have a way of growing and growing, leaving mass amounts of ruin behind them. A dumpster also has the ability to put a time limit on your project, actually forcing you to be more efficient to beat your dumpster’s deadline. Moving also tends to generate old furniture that is more than your local garbage guys will deal with. A small dumpster can smooth everything out during these projects.
